WHAT WE DO IS SECRET - NOW SHOWING

August 19th, 2008

Make a date - August 22, 2008 - the movie, like the music group, that started as Germ and spread….

WHAT WE DO IS SECRET, the amazing docu-drama, is now premiering in Los Angeles at the Nuart and in OC at the Regal Irvine Six starting this Friday - August 22, 2008.

Get your punk on and don’t miss it!

IT WAS A MOVEMENT THAT CHANGED MUSIC. IT WAS MUSIC THAT CHANGED THE WORLD. AND IT ALL STARTED WITH A GERM.

1970s Los Angeles—Nihilist Philosophy, Glam Rock, Drugs, Booze, Closeted Homosexuality, Dianetics, a Yen for Rock and Roll Immortality—a convergence that shaped the short, self-destructive life of Jan Paul Beahm, a fatherless boy with an alcoholic mother and an older brother who died of a drug-overdose—a kid who reinvented himself coming out of a high school for outcasts, as the one and only DARBY CRASH, the legendary lead singer of the seminal Los Angeles Punk band, The Germs.

Shane West (”ER”, LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN), Bijou Phillips (CHOKE, BULLY, BLACK AND WHITE), Rick Gonzalez (OLD SCHOOL, COACH CARTER) and Noah Segan (BRICK, CHAIN LETTER) star in WHAT WE DO IS SECRET, a biopic that chronicles the rise of The Germsand their charismatic leader Darby Crash, whose image—the contorted, screaming face and death grip on the microphone, has become an icon of the U.S. punk movement and a rapt influence on bands since. Darby’s cultivated punk attitude, resplendent with the hardcore, infamous onstage self-mutilation antics and volatile energy that inspired the band’s mesmerized followers to riot, ultimately banned The Germs from playing every venue in the greater Los Angeles area….now watch the drama unfold - WHAT WE DO IS SECRET = NOW SHOWING!!!

Celebrate 100 Years of Movie Making in Los Angeles / Hollywood with HFO

April 9th, 2008

It’s been 100 years since the first filmmakers from William Selig’s Chicago based film company Selig Polyscope Company arrived in Los Angeles California and began movie making.

Selig’s first studio was reportedly located on a vacant lot behind the Sung Lee Chinese laundry on Olive between 7th and 8th in Downtown Los Angeles.  Pioneering filmmakers Francis Boggs and Hobart Bosworth, now barely remembered, established Southern California filmmaking back in 1908 and would soon become, and remains, the movie making capital of the world.

Now, that’s truly something to celebrate!!!

~ Hurray for Hollywood ~

Inspiration at Sundance

January 22nd, 2008

sundance4.JPG

With so many of the recognizable faces here at Sundance walking down Main St. gift bags in tow and with some even bringing luggage bags with wheels to haul their booty back to their suites, it is understandable that Robert Redford, the founder of the festival, would comment on this influx of non film related celebrity presence.

However, despite Reford’s recent comment that “Paris Hilton and so forth doesn’t have anything to do with anything.” The H.F.O team has observed that the paparazzi want to tell their own story and at the top of their list is their usual headline grabbing stars.

Nevertheless, the weather, the purpose of the festival and the remoteness of its location continue to level the playing field. Star studded house parties are requiring that shoes be left at the door and with the below freezing temperatures and the massive amount of clothes required to make the scene, there is still the feeling that anyone could be the next someone despite their lack of the latest fur lined boots.

H.F.O. is very inspired by the success stories and the non traditional routes these independent film makers are taking and hope to continue this inspiration back in Hollywood.

Cheers to all those with a vision and a will.
